Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with the debating team which represented
Pakistan and won the international debating championship held in Mexico
earlier this month as part of IDEA Youth Forum 2012. 45 countries
including the USA and UK participated in this Karl Popper Debating
Championship; Pakistan competed against South Korea in the final on the
topic that Guantanamo Bay Prison should be closed down immediately and
won speaking for the topic. CM met with the team comprising of Azeem
Liaqat (SICAS), Ahmed Shujaan (Aitchison College), their coach Daniyal
and the adjudicator Rida. CM presented certificates to the team along
with a cash prize of 500,000 rupees, CM also announced the establishment
of the Chief Minister's Debating Society to train children studying in
public institutions in the art of Parliamentary Debates. CM stated that
the Punjab Government will support the Debating Society of Pakistan and
also hold competitions in which Public Institutions like Danish School
will compete against private schools.
